Rockville, Md., March 9, 2022 -- Michael Barnes, former Democratic congressman who represented Montgomery County for four terms, has endorsed David Blair for Montgomery County Executive.

Barnes represented Maryland’s 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1987. He serves as Chair of the Board of the Office of Congressional Ethics, appointed to the position last year by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Barnes has served as the President of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Chair of the Center for National Policy, and Vice Chairman of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Commission.

“Having served four terms in the U.S. Congress representing Montgomery County, I have a long and healthy perspective and believe David Blair is the most qualified candidate for Montgomery County Executive. His leadership record and vision for the county is what we need to reclaim Montgomery County as the state’s brightest star,” Barnes said. “David is an excellent example of a leader who is aware of his community’s needs. Through his work during the pandemic to address food insecurity as well as his efforts to establish the Entrepreneurship Lab, David Blair has shown me that he is devoted to the success of our community.”

“Michael Barnes is a smart and effective public servant with incredible leadership experience in a wide range of policy areas that impact our County,” Blair said. “It’s an honor to have his support. I’m committed to working with him and all Montgomery County residents to make our community a leader in education, affordable housing, environmental action, and good-paying job growth.”

“I believe David’s track record has clearly demonstrated his commitment to collaborative dialogue, timely involvement and pragmatic action that will be invaluable as we address the challenges that lie ahead,” Barnes said. “His leadership attributes are transcendent and timeless and I fully endorse David for County Executive, and urge you to vote for him so we can bring Montgomery County back to the stature where it belongs.”
