Rockville, Md., May 25, 2022 -- David Blair, Democratic candidate for Montgomery County Executive, has earned the endorsement of District 15 Maryland Delegate Lily Qi - an important community leader, the first Asian-American appointed Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Montgomery County, and the first Chinese immigrant to serve in the State legislature.

“David is the kind of leader who is unafraid of taking action, and he has proven himself to be effective working across different sectors to get different things done. I'm proud to endorse him,” Delegate Qi said. “As a County Executive, you not only need the right policies, but you have to execute. You need the experience to understand how to hire people and engage them and make sure they stay engaged to move the needle on the biggest issues that we all agree need to be moved forward, including transportation, housing, climate solutions, and education.”

Delegate Qi represents District 15, which includes Poolesville, Barnesville, Darnestown, Travilah, and parts of Potomac, North Potomac, Germantown, and Clarksburg.

Delegate Qi won a highly competitive race for the seat in 2018 and has quickly made an impact in Annapolis as the Deputy Majority Whip in the House of Delegates and with legislation to create a Maryland Green Bank, boost in-state manufacturing, grow good-paying jobs in the biohealth and tech industries, and more.

“Delegate Qi is an inspiring leader whose experience in economic development, advocacy for more education services in the Upcounty, and work to expand language access to our elections has made our County better,” Blair said. “I’m grateful for her endorsement, her expertise, and her leadership.”

Before serving as a District 15 delegate, Qi was an economic development official in Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County. Former County Executive Isiah Leggett appointed her as an Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Montgomery County in 2016. Delegate Qi emigrated from China to the United States in 1989 and has worked to make it easier for immigrant communities to participate in elections.

Other endorsers of Blair include Sierra Club, the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS (GCAAR), Councilmember and Lieutenant Governor candidate Nancy Navarro, Former County Councilmember Valerie Ervin, Maryland Senate Majority Leader Nancy King (District 39), State Senator and Vice Chair of the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee Cheryl Kagan (District 17), City of Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman, former Congressional Reps. John Delaney and Michael Barnes, and former City of Rockville Mayor and 2018 County Executive candidate Rose Krasnow. Recently, David was named a 2022 Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.

The Democratic Primary election for Montgomery County Executive is July 19, 2022.
